While Las Vegas is world renown as a glitzy gambling and stage show mecca,
this oasis in the desert is also a place of great natural beauty. You just have
to pull yourself away from the slot machines long enough to experience it.
Because there is more to Las Vegas than martini soaked nights of roulette wheels
and Elvis impersonators, you may want to consider staying off the "Strip" and in
a vacation home or condo. Las Vegas rental homes and condos are plentiful, as
the recent growth in population and thus home building skyrocketed in the 80s
and 90s. Beautiful large homes or well appointed condos provide more space and
privacy. This is especially nice if you are bringing the entire family or all
your golf buddies. All Las Vegas vacation rentals will come fully furnished with
complete kitchens and linen service. A complete kitchen might come in handy
after a tough night at the casinos. Peanut butter and jelly tastes pretty good
when it's made in your gourmet kitchen. You are never far from the never-ending
action, but you are far enough to get a decent night's sleep (or day's sleep)
when you want it. Plus your eyes will open up to all the other delights that Las
Vegas has to offer.
Start with a walking tour of the Hoover Dam, quite a site in itself (plus you
need the exercise.) The Lake Mead Recreation Area is an awesome area loaded with
water activities in the desert. Water ski or jet ski, swim, go boating or
kayaking and just plain stay cool in the Nevada sun. This unique area crosses
the Mojave, Great Basin and Sonoran Deserts, with wildlife found nowhere else.
Picnic, hike or camp in the Valley of Fire State Park. You won't catch on fire,
the name comes from the deep red sandstone you'll find there. You can even ski
in Las Vegas. Not down the strip , but in the Mt. Charleston Recreation Area,
with it's highest peak coming in at 11,900 feet. You may also catch a glimpse of
some Rocky Mountain Elk, Mule Deer or Desert Big Horn Sheep.
The lights of Las Vegas will beckon you back for
another turn at the slot machines. Bugsy Siegel, Howard Hughes and Elvis Presley
built and/or made resort hotels and casinos the "it" place to be. Every resort
has at least one casino and myriad restaurants and entertainment venues. The
biggest names in show business are now and have always been mainstays on the
Vegas stages, so you will never run out of entertainment options. Even though it
is known as "Sin City", don't be tempted to plant yourself in one casino until
your pockets are empty. Casino hop, hit downtown and experience it's vibrancy,
and check out the natural beauty in which this glitzy oasis resides. A Las Vegas vacation rental home, condo or villa is
the perfect way to experience it all.
