Explore The Lycian Way As Part Of Your Visit To Turkey

Turkey is perhaps one of the least known treasures for holidaymakers and it is truly one of the most beautiful countries anywhere, so it's not surprising that an increasing number of people are choosing to spend their holiday time here. You have so many different choices. Why not decide to tour one of its most splendid cities such as Istanbul? Alternatively, you could be a beach lover and should soak in the sun along the spectacular Mediterranean coast.

If history and culture is for you, then a period of time exploring one  of the country's best kept secrets will show you that in the region of  Cappadocia Turkey has an area of outstanding scenery and ancient history  all rolled into one.

Cappadocia is part of an ancient trading route and the earliest settlers  have been traced back to 2000 BC. This region has some rather unique  scenery, including the so-called "fairy chimneys," caused when wind and  water combined to erode some really strange rock formations.

Wouldn't it be nice just to get away from the daily grind and the problems that we face and cannot get away from? It's time to think about an active and healthy holiday to blow the cobwebs away and you can really achieve this by choosing to explore the Lycian Way, the most unique and spectacular walking trail. This entire walkway is rather new and less than a decade old, but it runs for 500 km from the mountains of Lycia all the way to the coastline. As you might expect there will be some exertion required due to the elevation changes. Don't expect all the comforts of home and do expect to make an effort to get used to some of the ancient foot and donkey paths that you will come across, so be prepared. Do expect to be rewarded with some of the most amazing views and some truly breathtaking scenery to enjoy.

When we think about culture we don't often think about Turkey, but we're overlooking what it has to offer, probably in favour of some of those traditional favourites such as Greece or Italy. Culture and beauty abound when you walk the Lycian Way and you will come across many of the friendliest people on earth. They're always welcome to share an anecdote or two or a bit of advice and you can always get past the language barrier if you try. A walking holiday certainly introduces you to the surroundings like no other and you get a good feel for the culture of the country. You would not experience this as part of an escorted coach tour or driving holiday, would you?

If you like the idea, but are a little wary, you might like to go along  with an official guide; somebody who has a great deal of experience in  the area and of course can help you communicate with the locals as you  go. Please make sure that you are in reasonable health for a walk of  this kind though and remember that there will be numerous steep ascents  and descents as you go.

You have some great choices when you choose Turkey for your holiday. Enjoy!
